{"id":4846,"date":"2015-11-07T20:25:05","date_gmt":"2015-11-07T20:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/namathueelanadu.com\/?p=4846"},"modified":"2015-11-07T20:25:05","modified_gmt":"2015-11-07T20:25:05","slug":"un-working-group-on-enforced-disappearances-to-visit-sri-lanka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/namathueelanadu.com\/?p=4846","title":{"rendered":"UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances to visit Sri Lanka"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances will visit Sri Lanka next week, at the invitation of the Sri Lankan government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">A statement by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights announced that the group will be on an official visit from the 9th til the 18th of November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">During the mission, the UN experts will study the measures adopted by the State to prevent and eradicate enforced disappearances, including issues related to truth, justice and reparation for the victims of enforced disappearances. They will also gather information on cases of enforced disappearances, including those pending before the Working Group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">The Working Group will start and end the visit in Colombo and will travel to Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Matale, Trincomalee, Ampara and Galle. The expert body will meet with State officials, both at the central and provincial levels, as well as with relatives of disappeared people, representatives of civil society organizations and of relevant UN agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">A final report on the visit will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in September 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">The Working Group is currently made up of five independent experts, with its members hailing from Morocco, Canada, South Korea, Argentina and Lithuania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>source: www.tamilguardian.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances will visit Sri Lanka next week, at the invitation of the Sri Lankan government.
